WALLA WALLA - Local children's books author Patrick Carman will head to the Big Apple later this month as the featured guest of Al's Book Club for Kids on the "Today Show."

Carman will do a live question-and-answer session with children as part of the monthly feature, with the young book club members ready to talk about Carman's latest work, "The Black Circle."

Hosted by Al Roker, who usually delivers the weather for the morning news show, the book club was launched as a way to get children reading in the lazy summer months.

Roker announced "The Black Circle" as his September pick at the end of the August segment. The book is the fifth and latest in what is to be a 10-book series, "The 39 Clues." The series follows the adventures of siblings Amy and Dan Cahill as they travel the world seeking answers to a family mystery.

Readers look for clues of their own within each book, and then use the information on an interactive Web site. Each book in the series so far has been written by a different author, with Carman's the most recent in the series.

Carman said he didn't have an exact date yet for his "Today Show" visit, but that it would be sometime near the end of the month.

More information about "The Black Circle" and other books in the series, is available at the39clues.com.
