WALLA WALLA -- A team of Washington State Penitentiary officers training to find escaped inmates found something else Wednesday.
The seven-member Inmate Recovery Team came across a marijuana grow operation near Bennington Lake about 11:15 a.m., according to a Walla Walla County Sheriff's report.
Ninety-seven plants were growing on a peninsula that goes into the water from the north side of the lake, the report said. All the plants were pulled up and taken away to be destroyed.
No suspects were arrested and it was unclear who was responsible for the grow, according to the Sheriff's Office.
