WALLA WALLA — Connie Doll rode home five winners Sunday during the final day of pari-mutuel horse racing at the Walla Walla Fair, including two of the day’s four featured races.

Doll was aboard Easily a Smash Hit for a fast run of 13.38 seconds in winning the Ival Sutherland Memorial Quarter Horse Derby on the ninth race of the day. The John H. Dickinson-trained horse paid $10.40 to win, $4.80 to place and $2.20 to show on a $2 wager.

Then, in the 10th and final race of the day, she wrapped up the three-day meet by pushing West Walker to victory in the Thoroughbred Queen’s Derby at a mile and an 8th. West Walker, one of two Don Abrahamson-trained horses in the five-horse field, returned $3.40, $2.40, $2.40 and was caught in a time of 1 minute, 58.2 seconds.

In the days other features, Ruben Camacho rode Get Runnin Ruben to first place in the Chet Young Memorial Futurity for 2-year-old Quarter Horses, and Leonel Camacho-Flores was in the irons as Flexible Loyalties captured the Kenny Smith Memorial Thoroughbred Claiming race at 5 furlongs.

Get Runnin Ruben was clocked in 13.65 and paid $4.20, $3.40, $2.40. Flexible Loyalties returned $8.20, $4.20, $2.20, with no time recorded.

The biggest pay day during the final day of racing came in the eighth race, a Thoroughbred Claiming run at 5 furlongs, with Mr. Liberty Bells taking honors in 1:03.4 with Terrence Birdrattler up. Mr. Liberty Bells paid $16.60, $4.80, $4.40, but those who put together a trifecta ticket that had Black Canyon Bart running second and Billy Stark third pocketed $316.40 on a $2 risk.

All told, bettors pushed $41,438 through the pari-mutuel windows during Sunday’s races. And while that was down slightly from Saturday’s $49,356 handle, the three-day total of $110,130 had to make race officials smile.
