Jazz, wine event to raise fun, funds

Friends of Children of Walla Walla will present "A Little Jazz and Wine Among Friends" this weekend.

The music and wine festival begins Friday and continues on Saturday night on Main Street.

Friday night's concert, "Jazz at the Foundry," will start at 6 p.m. at the Walla Walla Foundry, 405 Woodland Ave.

The evening will feature appetizers and desserts from Walla Walla Catering, local wines and jazz music from Dave Glenn and the Whitman Jazz combo, followed by Seattle-based Randy Halberstadt Trio with vocalist Gail Pettis.

The evening's menu will consist of "dip of the gods" served with baguette, crostini bar, petit pesto potatoes, Italian layered chicken open-faced sandwiches, assorted savory tartlets, bacon-wrapped water chestnuts, coconut shrimp with dipping sauce and an assorted dessert tier.

Tickets are $75 per person and ensures access to Saturday evening's "Friends on Main."

That event will feature acts covering a range of musical styles, organizers say, and music will stretch from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Backstage Bistro will be the stage for The Randy Halberstadt Trio with Gail Pettis; Merchant's will host Snap, Crackle & Pop; Brasserie Four will present Paul West, and Sapolil Cellars will feature Mark Brown and Gary Romjue.

For those not holding a weekend ticket, Saturday's concerts are a $20 cover for all four venues, payable at the door at any host site. For more information call 527-4745. Tickets are available at the Friends office, 120 E. Birch St., Suite 10.
