Waitsburg resident Jim Sanford Sr., 81, died Sept. 4, 2009, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center.
The funeral was at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt Cremations & Funeral Services, 1551 Dalles Military Road. Burial was in Waitsburg Cemetery.
Mr. Sanford was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Federal Way, Wash., to Christopher Brady and Lydia Magdalene Krauss Sanford. He graduated from Federal Way High School in 1945. Following graduation, he worked in the shipyards in Tacoma. In 1949, he moved to Lewiston, where he began working at Potlatch Forest Inc.
On Feb. 4, 1950, he and Dorothy Cash married in Lewiston. Following retirement in 1986, they moved to Dayton and then to Waitsburg. Mrs. Sanford died June 3, 2007. He surrendered his heart to the Lord as a young man and walked in God's way throughout his life.
On Dec. 17, 2007, he and Margaret Henderson married in Kimball, Neb. They lived at the family home in Waitsburg.
Mr. Sanford is survived by his wife, at the home; three daughters, Margene and Wilma Sanford and June Adams, all of Yakima; two sons, Mark Sanford of Vale, N.C., and James Sanford Jr. of Yakima; two sisters, Gladys Rambo of Edgewood, Wash., and Ruth Sisley of Sea-Tac, Wash.; a brother, Lloyd Sanford of Browns Point, Wash.; two granddaughters, Amy and Amanda Reep; and two great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Kara Lynn Reep. He was preceded in death by an infant son in 1950; and two brothers, Herbert and John Sanford, both in 1936.
