Members of the council are Eric Pickard, LaVerne Mitchell, John Shafer, Deborah Hayward and Carol Speed. Mayor is Charles Vickery. With all present Thursday the council:
City HALL: Contractor Jeff Givens of Sid Johnson & Co. of Baker City presented his firm's estimate for remodel of city hall and the police department.
PERMIT: Approved permit for Weston-McEwen High School noise parade and bonfire Oct. 29. Unanimous.
FESTIVAL: Approved closure of Main Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3 for the Fall Festival. Unanimous.
DETECTING: Decided to make no changes in current policy which prohibits use of metal detectors in the city park. The sign will be left in place.
APPLICATIONS: Learned 14 applications had been received for the public works position, and 7 for the police officer position. Four of the police applicants are certified officers. The positions will close today and the council will begin reviewing the applications next week.
LIBRARY: Mayor appointed Elizabeth McIntyre to the library board.
LOAN: Passed a resolution regarding USDA rural development loan contingent on approval by the city attorney. Unanimous.
CEMETERY: Approved renewal of 1-year contract with the Athena Cemetery Maintenance District #1 for clerical services. Unanimous.
