Pirates’ strong start can’t hold up against St. John-Endicott

ST. JOHN — After a gang-busters start, Pomeroy dropped a four-game prep volleyball match to St. John-Endicott here on Thursday.?The Pirates swamped the Eagles 25-19 in the opening game, but lost the next three 25-17, 25-12 and 25-11.

The Pirates are now 0-1 in District 9 play and 2-2 overall.

Delaney Monahan led the Pirates with three kills and seven blocks. Haylee Koller had three kills, Kindsey Bott had eight blocks, and Maddie Grim had seven digs.

"We started really, really well," Pomeroy coach Rob Monahan said. "Then we’re not sure what happened. Out passing became a little shakey. Out attack became shakey.

"We’re really young, and I guess our youth showed," he added. "We just did not have the ability to sustain the way we played in game one."?The Pirates play DeSales at the Pirates’ gym on Tuesday.
