Mary James-Slawson, 83, a resident of Quail Run Retirement Community, 1701 Plaza Way, died there Sept. 13, 2009.
The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God, 1919 Fern Ave. The Revs. Jesse Wilkinson and Jack Bailey will officiate. Inurnment in Waitsburg City Cemetery will be private.

Mrs. James-Slawson was born March 7, 1926, in Ada, Okla., to Willis and Flora Haynes Privitt. On Oct. 21, 1949, she and Cephas James Jr. were married in Ada. They moved to this area in 1989 from Edmonds, Wash. She worked in retail sales for Kmart. Mr. James died April 2, 1999. On May 5, 2005, she and James Slawson were married in Walla Walla.
Her family and her Christian faith were of utmost importance to her. She was a member of First Assembly of God.
Mrs. James-Slawson is survived by her husband, at Quail Run; two daughters, Rochelle Alexander of Spokane and Renita Janzer of Henderson, Nev.; a brother, Leo Clay of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Misty Hayes, T J James, Ashley Alexander and Kasha Janzer; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee James, on Sept. 17, 2003.
