Errors costly as Wa-Hi falls to Davis

YAKIMA - Wa-Hi lost a non-conference baseball game with Davis here Thursday afternoon, as mental errors cost the Blue Devils six runs in the third inning to lose to the Pirates 6-2.

"We were up 1-0 going into the third, but a couple of errors - mental errors - and they scored six, and that was the nature of the game," said Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwohl. "The rest of the game went really well, we just had that one bad inning."

Midfielder Morgan Maddess made two notable catches for the Blue Devils, Gradwohl said.

Matt Watson pitched the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, allowing no hits. He struck out four and walked one, Gradwohl said.

"Matt was impressive for us," he said.

Wa-Hi is 4-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Blue Devils next host Southridge Tuesday.
