John W. Johnson, 67, of Dayton was born Feb. 1, 1943, to Harvey and Leona Johnson. He died March 21, 2010, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
At his request, no service will be held at this time. A celebration of his life will take place in the mountains he so loved later this year with family members and a few of his close friends and co-workers.
John married Ellen Baruth on Dec. 18, 1965, in Waterloo, Iowa. He worked for Washington State Penitentiary for the last 17 years, making many lifelong friends.
He is survived by their four grown children, Jon T Johnson of Des Moines, Wash., Dawn Peters (Bill) of Dayton, Matt Johnson (Milissa) of College Place and Heather Hays (Chad) of Dayton. John has seven grandchildren, Mandy and Jake Peters; Hailey, Thor and Scarlett Johnson; and Alex and Taylor Hays. Also surviving him are his brother, Laverne Johnson and wife Evelyn of Walla Walla; and sisters, Bonnie Blitsch of Milwaukee, Ore., Judy Bradford of Walla Walla and Eileen Royce of Salt Lake City, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his sister, Jan Henderson, parents and grandparents.
