Leonard A. Gage, 88, of Walla Walla passed away at his home on the morning of Good Friday at 9 a.m. surrounded by his loving wife and grandson after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Leonard was born on Nov. 4, 1921, to Clark and Florence Morris Gage on the family farm in Westport, S.D. Leonard was married to the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Vesta D. Hedges, on June 8, 1942, in Sissiton, S.D.

Leonard was a well digger, sheep shearer and enlisted with the United States Navy Seabees for two years in Philippines. Leonard and Vista also managed and operated a Ski Lodge before moving to Walla Walla in 1965. Leonard worked for the City of Walla Walla for 21 years until his retirement. Leonard was a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E #287, Eagles Aerie #26, and the VFW. Leonard enjoyed fishing and coached Little League baseball for many years and also loved to play the fiddle. Most of all Leonard and Vesta loved to dance, as they would go twice a week to various places through out the Walla Walla Valley.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vesta Gage, at the home; son, Richard Gage and grandson Jeffery Gage, both of Walla Walla; a sister, Vera of Waco, Texas; a brother, Harley and his wife Eva Gage of Westport, SD; a daughter in law, Gail, and granddaughter, Stacy, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; granddaughters, Shelly of Holland and Cheryl of Aberdeen, S.D.; great-grandchildren, Kelly and Frank of Holland, Samantha, Austin and Cole of Aberdeen, S.D., and Caleb and Nathan of Phoenix, Ariz.
