Longtime area resident, Richard E. Hermann, 78, died peacefully at his home at Milton-Freewater, Or.

Services will be; Rosary, Thursday April 8, 7:00pm at Herring Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral mass will be held on Friday April 9th at 1:00pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 925 Vining St. Milton-Freewater, Or. Father Gabriel Ezeh will officiate. Internment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla, Wa.

Memorial contributions may be made to; The Christian aide center or Assumption Catholic grade school through Herring Funeral Home.

Mr. Hermann was born to Elizabeth and Walter Hermann in Milton-Freewater. He attended school at Eastside grade school and graduated from St. Patrick High School in Walla Walla.

He served in the United States Air Force in Germany. In 1956 he went to work for the US Army Corps of Engineers, in Walla Walla. While working on a flood control project in Colfax, Wa. he met his wife to be Rita Sanders and they were married November 9th, 1957.

They made their home in Walla Walla, Wa. until 1969.They then moved to their farm on Winesap Rd. in Milton-Freewater. He, along with his son Carl raised apples while he worked at the Corps of Engineers. He retired from the Corps. in 1985.

He enjoyed camping with his family and grandchildren. He was a life long Notre Dame fan and considered himself among the 'subway alumni'. He also enjoyed card parties with his extended family and had a zest for life. In his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering at his grandchildrens schools and at his church. He put his time, talent and heart in the building of the new hall at his church and was so proud to have seen it resently dedicated by Bishop Vasa.

Dick was a man of God and found much happiness spending time with his friends and family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Hermann is survived by his wife, Rita, at the home, his son and daughter in law, Carl and Veronica Hemann of Milton Freewater and their children; Matthew, Nathan and Katie.

His daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Chris Isely of Vancouver, Wa and their children, Justin and Trevor.

He is also survived by 2 Sisters; Mary Helling and Jean Kennedy both of Pendleton, Or., 3 brothers; Phil Hermann of Mosses Lake Wa, Pete Hermann of Walla Walla Wa., and Mike Hermann of Pasco, Wa. As well as many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his son Gary, in 2008.

He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Milton-Freewater and a member of the Elks
Lodge #287 in Walla Walla, Wa.
