Whitman College site of a variety of musical events


Whitman College Department of Music will present the following free April musical events:

Saturday -- The Chorale and Chamber Singers Spring Concert, directed by Blake Adams is 7:30 p.m. at Chism Recital Hall, Whitman College Hall of Music, 137 S. Park St. Gabriel Faur?®'s timeless "Requiem," as well as choral works by Rossini, Brahms, J.D. Earnest and others, will be presented.

Sunday -- The first-year piano student recital with Dandi Huang, Alexandra Kerl and Olivia Schwarz is 3 p.m. in the Kimball Theatre, Whitman College Hunter Conservatory, 345 Boyer Ave. Works by Mozart, Debussy, J.S. Bach, Brahms and Rachmaninoff will be played.

Wednesday -- The Wind Ensemble Spring Concert is 7:30 p.m. in Cordiner Hall; 46 S. Park St. The concert features Eric Nesbit and Meaghan Russell, playing Mendelssohn's "Concert piece No. 2 for two solo Clarinets and band." Also featured on the program will be a new piece, "Angels in the Architecture," by Frank Tichelli. This piece features Jacqueline Kamm, senior vocal major, as the angel of light, with appearance by whirly tubes, tuned wine glasses and wonderful solos by several sections and soloists. Also included are "English Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughn Williams and "Suite of Old American Dances," by Robert Russell Bennett. The Wind Ensemble is directed by Peter Crawford.
