WALLA WALLA - The Wa-Hi girl's tennis team got victories from its top three singles players, and its No. 3 doubles team, to eke out a 4-3 win over Moses Lake on a gusty afternoon Thursday.

The Blue Devils' No. 1 and team captain, Presley Peck, downed the Chiefs' Rachel Korth in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

No. 2 Tianna Cummings likewise swept Rachel Hofstetter, 6-3, 6-4, and No. 3 Claire Konen made quick work of Melissa Calder, 6-2, 6-1.

Wa-Hi's No. 4 singles player, Kristine Leier, suffered a three-set loss to Moses Lake's Jessica Homesley. Scores were 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

In doubles play, the Blue Devils' Linnea Lake teamed with Hannah Warinner to defeat the Chiefs' No. 3 team of Ananlise Odegard/Emily Roth, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3).

Wa-Hi's doubles teams of Chantel Desjarlais and Allison Mehn, and Rosa Tobin and Monica Torres, fell to their Moses Lake counterparts.

Desjarlais and Mehn fell to Audrey Ramsden and Courtney Kunjar, 6-4, 6-3, and Tobin and Torres one the first set before losing to Iris Banks and Micaiah Stones, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

"I am really proud of how the girls once again mentally handled the tough conditions," Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. "The wind was gusting and doing some crazy things with the ball. Winning today was more about determination and weathering the elements than it was about skill or tactics - windy days in tennis are like that."

Peck complimented the play of his victorious players.

"Presley (Peck), Tianna (Cummings), and Claire (Konen), all played some great tennis in their respective No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles spots," he said. "Each of them defeated their opponents in straight sets to earn valuable points for the team win.

"In our doubles play, Linnea Lake teamed up with Hannah Warinner and got the match-winner with a victory over Moses Lake's No. 3 doubles team of Annalise Odegard and Emily Roth," Peck said. "This is the first time Linnea and Hannah have teamed up for doubles. They played really well together."

The Blue Devils head to the Tri-City Invite at Kennewick High today and Saturday, before a road trip to Eastmont and Wenatchee April 17.

"It was good to get back to playing tennis after spring break, and then the weather keeping us off the courts a few days this week," Peck said. "We head to Tri-Cities (today) for the Tri-City Invite. The competition is always good. It will be another great chance for us to get better and prepare ourselves for a tough schedule in April."
