Pvt. Jake Morrison, from the U.S. Marine Corps Depot Basic Training Center, San Diego. Morrison received recognition as a sharp shooter.

He is now at Camp Pendleton where he is a platoon squad leader and continues his military training as a light armored vehicle crewman. Morrison is the son of Jock and Pat Morrison of Walla Walla and a 2009 graduate of Walla Walla High School.

Air Force Airman TaMaka C. Swartout. from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

She is the daughter of Dena Miller of Walla Walla and granddaughter of Ronald Swartout of Centerville, Wash. Swartout graduated in 2009 from Walla Walla High School.
