ATHENA - Mac-Hi's boys and girls took team tennis triumphs from Weston-McEwen's TigerScots in Special District 7 hardcourt action here Saturday.
The Pioneer boys split two singles matches, and swept two doubles bouts. The Pioneer girls, meanwhile, lost their lone singles match, but topped W-M in the two doubles contests.
In the No. 1 boys singles match, Mac-Hi's Omar Gomez defeated Kolby McKague 8-3.
In the No. 2 match, Weston-McEwen's Daniel Winn skunked Mac-Hi's Mark Rodriguez 8-0.
Pioneers Ricky Angel and Anthony Martinez made short work of McKague and Winn in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-2, then John Bird and Sam Perry made even shorter work of TigerScots Josh Lambert and Pierson Pahl, 8-0.
W-M girls No. 1, Laura Alleslev, took two extra games, but put away Pioneer Kiya Locati 9-7 in the lone girls singles match.
Mac-Hi bounced back with 8-3 and 8-5 victories in the two doubles matches. Kyrisa Koch and Rachel Smith took the No. 1 match over Shyanne Albee and Presley Pahl, while Maria Rincon and Vanessa Cuellar seized the No. 2 match from Samantha Morehouse and Shyanne Albee.
"Mac-Hi's boy team looked strong," Weston-McEwen coach Danny Sanchez said, "My guys fought hard and stayed in it and made a good effort.
"(Allesev) did a good job today. She moved the ball around well," he said. "I think she has a good chance to do well come districts.
"I was also impressed with my (girls) doubles team. They played hard and hung in there."
The two schools tussle again Tuesday at Mac-Hi.
