POMEROY - Pomeroy and DeSales golfers earned the top four spots in boys play here Saturday.
The boys medalist was Pomeroy's Trevor Koberstein, who shot a 73 on the course. DeSales' Ryan Baumgart was one stroke behind, at 68.
The boys golfed twice around the 31-par, nine-hole course for 18 holes.
"We finally knocked off Tri-Cities Prep, who've been beating us every time," said DeSales coach Lon Olson.
Pomeroy placed first for the boys, with a team score of 391. Individual scores were Koberstein's 73, Joel Meyers at 79, Austin Starin at 85, Tanner Fieder with 87 and Anthony DeLagrassio, shooting a non-counting 122.
In Baumgart's first time around the nine-hole course, he hit a 37; on the second trip, he improved to 31.
"It was his first time ever on that course," Olson said. "(The ninth hole) is a tough hole and you have to play it a few times to get used to it."
DeSales' team score was 453. Individual scores were Baumgart's 68, Kyle Konen at 87, Bryce Scott with 92, Ben Konen at 97 and Justin Meyers hitting 109.
Waitsburg-Prescott's only player, Dakota Baker, hit 90.
Tri-Cities Prep finished with 471.
"Anything in the 70s is a pretty good score on the Pomeroy course," Olson said. "An 80 would be bogey-golf. Pomeroy had three of those, and 80s aren't too bad."
The girls golfed nine holes. DeSales placed a distant second to Prep, and Pomeroy doesn't have a girls team.
The girls' medalist was T-C Prep's Samantha Pegram, at 44 on the par-31. Prep finished first with 199.
DeSales was second with 256. DeSales' team scores were Bethany Konen at 56, Kelly Martin with 67, Ashton Montgomery at 65 and Alyssa Lyons with 68.
"We're still early in the season and we've got lots of time to figure it out," Olson said. "It was a good day all-in-all. It's always a learning experience when we go out of town."
The tournament teed off at 10 a.m. Saturday in cool, breezy conditions.
DeSales and Pomeroy next play Thursday at Canyon Lakes.
