POMEROY - Trevor Koberstein made his own Masters moment at Crystal Springs Golf Course here Saturday, holding off DeSales' Ryan Baumgart by a stroke on the final hole for medalist honors, while leading his Pomeroy boys quintet to victory over Southeast B league rivals DeSales and Tri-Cities Prep.

Koberstein shot a 67 on the short par 62 course. The Pirates shot a combined 391 for a 62-stroke victory over second-place DeSales. DeSales shot 453, while Tri-Cities Prep tallied 471.

Baumgart finished at 68, one stroke behind Koberstein.

"The freshman kid from DeSales (Baumgart) is a golfer," Pomeroy coach Jim Greene said. "Once he figured the course out, he was tough."

Baumgart shot a 37 on the front nine and a 31 on the return trip.

"Our kid (Koberstein) barely held him off," Greene said. "(Koberstein) was solid on both the front and back nine."

"It was (Baumgart's) first time ever on that course. (The ninth hole) is a tough hole and you have to play it a few times to get used to it," DeSales coach Lon Olson said.

"We finally knocked off Tri-Cities Prep, who's been beating us every time," Olson added.

On the girls side, Tri-Cities Prep defeated DeSales 199-256.

TCP's Samantha Pegram took girls top honors with 44 over nine holes. Par for nine holes on the girls tee was 32.

Bethany Konen was DeSales' top finisher. Konen shot a 56, good for fifth place.

"We're still early in the season and we've got lots of time to figure it out," Olson said. "It was a good day all-in-all. It's always a learning experience when we go out of town."

DeSales swings the clubs again Thursday at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick.

Pomeroy's next match is Thursday at Clarkston's Quail Ridge Golf Course against Asotin.
