Warrior golfers 4th in Wenatchee

WENATCHEE - Walla Walla Community College's golfers finished a Northwest Athletic Association Conference league match at Wenatchee with a pair of fourth-place finishes Monday.

The two-day tournament finished at the Highlander Golf Course. The Warriors' highest men's score was Jeff Neher, shooting 68 the first day and 70 the second for a total score of 138, or 6-under par.

Spokane finished first, shooting 283 and 278 for a combined 561, 15-under par for the two-day match. Bellevue finished second with 287-287 - 574, as well as the medalist, Kevin Shewfelt, with 68-67 - 135, nine under par.

Skagit Valley was third, with 286-291 - 577; Walla Walla fourth at 292-297 - 589; Columbia Basin fifth with 303-297 - 600; Olympic fifth at 308-297 - 605; Southwest Oregon sixth, with 310-307 - 617, Treasure Valley seventh with 319-331 - 650, and Grey's Harbor eighth with 322-332 - 676.

Neher topped for Walla Walla, followed by Mike Noreen with 77-71 - 148; Daniel Morgan at 70-80 - 150, Cory Spencer at 77-77 - 154, Max Levitch at 78-79 - 157 and Marcus Kilthau at 82-79 - 161.

For the women, Dona Dunovant finished at 84-86 for a combined 170, 10 strokes behind medalist Caral Martinson from Green River.

Martinson tied with Spokane's Alexa Bell and won by playoff.

"It was an excellent match for the women, especially, and we had a terrific showing," said head coach Mike Rostollan. "Our top two golfers had excellent rounds."

Green River won the women's round with 245-247 - 492. Spokane scored 252-262 - 518; Skagit Valley had 256-262 - 518, Walla Walla had 269-288 - 557; Bellevue had 271-293 - 564, Centralia had 338-324 - 572; Southwest Oregon had 292-293 - 585; Olympic had 284-303 - 587; Trasure Valley hit 299-314 - 613; and CBC hit 345-333 - 678.

Walla Walla's women's scores were Dunovant's 84-86 - 170, Kati Lucas' 88-90 - 178, Jordan Simkins with 97-112 - 209 and Jamie Robison at 118-112 - 230.

The Warriors return to the links April 25-26 in Spokane.
