Jan. 16, 1928 - April 9, 2010
Herb C. Scudder was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Brentwood, Ark., to Oliver and Lela Scudder. The family moved from the Midwest to Milton-Freewater in the early 1940's.
After serving in the Air Force he returned to Milton-Freewater, where he met and married Nadine Heller on Oct. 6, 1947. Herb was very talented and worked as a dairy farmer and tugboat operator, and he helped maintain railroads. He also worked for K2H farms, a plant nursery and as a farm hand at many local farms in the Prescott area. He retired from Roger's Cannery as a night security guard in the early '90s. Herb raised cattle and quarter horses and could always be found outside working with his animals.
Herb is survived by his wife, Nadine; seven children, Creta and Rick Darraow, Carolyn and Dick Rand, Charlene Lakey, Tim and Jana Scudder, Colleen Scudder, Carmen and Kevin Gerking, and Chris and Debbie Scudder; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He has one surviving brother, Harold, who resides in St. Helens, Ore.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
Viewing will be held Thursday, April 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Herring Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at the Ivy Cemetery in Prescott on Friday, April 16, at 2:30 p.m. with a potluck to follow at the Prescott Lions Hall.
