Milton-Freewater superintendent to step down

Marilyn McBride plans to make the next school year her last at the helm of Milton-Freewater schools.

MILTON-FREEWATER -- The Milton-Freewater School Board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Marilyn McBride on Tuesday night, effective at the end of the next school year.

The board was not unanimous in its decision; board member George Gillette opposed the motion to accept McBride's departure as well as the resignation of Freewater Elementary School's music teacher, Rachel June Vixie.

McBride gave her last day as June 30, 2011, which will cap 10 years as superintendent, and 22 years as an administrator for city schools. McBride's career in Milton-Freewater has included being principal of Ferndale Elementary and Pleasant View Middle School before the Ferndale School District incorporated.

She also oversaw the technology and special services departments in her career with the district.

McBride said announcing her resignation a year in advance gives the school board ample time to find a new superintendent. McBride said the time felt right to move on, but said she did not have immediate plans for the next phase of her career.
