St. John-Endicott smacks 31 hits in baseball sweep of Pomeroy

POMEROY - J.C. West led the way with five hits as St. John-Endicott pounded out 31 hits on the day in sweeping a Southeast B District Northern Division baseball doubleheader from Pomeroy here Tuesday, 22-8 and 15-3.

The games were originally scheduled to be played at St. John-Endicott but were moved to Pomeroy because of unplayable field conditions in Endicott.

West had two singles, scored three times and drove in one run in the first game. He added a double and two singles in the second game and collected one RBI.

"They hit us around pretty good," Pomeroy coach Dave Boyer said.

Boyer said the highlight for his team was the season pitching debut of Nick Tewalt in the first game. Tewalt, a sophomore right-hander, allowed just two Eagles runs over the first three innings before tiring in the fourth, when SJ-E struck for nine runs.

"He just rejoined the team," Boyer said, noting that Tewalt had been sidelined after having a retinae reattached. "He looked good, but he wore down in that fourth inning."

Sean Beale, Wyatt Koller and Jay Breithaupt had two hits each for Pomeroy in the opener. Pomeroy was limited to three hits in the second game, one each by Koller, Alex Koberstein and Sam Lindekugal.

The Pirates are now 0-6 on the year and entertain Tri-Cities Prep Friday in a 2:30 p.m. cross division doubleheader.
