DeSales softball teams takes doubleheader victories

WALLA WALLA - DeSales won two softball games against Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia here Saturday.

"The girls played real well," said Irish head coach Russ Vera.

In the first game, DeSales pitchers took care of the batters.

"Our pitcher (Amanda Warnick) had some trouble but she fought back for 10 strikeouts," Vera said.

T-O-R's pitcher for both games was sophomore Hannah Sims, who had never pitched a high school game before, Vera said.

"She did OK," he said. "She gave us quite a few walks, but T-O-R also had quite a few injured players, so they did their best."

Ali Zander had three hits and one triple for two RBIs in the first game.

In the second game, DeSales only had three hits but managed runs with stolen bases and field errors.

Irish pitcher Ashlyn Lyons gave up only one hit in the second game.

She had five strikeouts in the five-inning game.

The Irish improve to 8-0 in league and 8-1 overall, and have four games to go.
