POMEROY - Pomeroy baseball broke a 36-game losing streak, dating to the middle of 2008, here Friday.
"I can't really explain how I felt," Pomeroy Pirates baseball coach Dave Boyer said. "How happy I was for me and the kids. I felt really good about the win."
The Pirates narrowly missed beating Tri-Cities Prep in game one, a 10-9 loss, and then came back in game two to win 13-6 with 11 runs in the sixth inning.
In game one, Pomeroy had the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on second in the last inning, but failed to capitalize on the base runners and take the win.
The win came in game two, when they had 11 hits and 13 runs.
Seven hits and 11 runs on the three Tri-Cities errors came in the sixth innning for the Pirates. Pomeroy sent 14 men to the plate in that inning alone.
Alex Koberstein, an eighth grader, had five hits in the doubleheader for Pomeroy.
Pomeroy pounded out 30 hits on the afternoon and "a lot of our line drives that could have gone for hits, were caught," Boyer said.
All nine of the Pirate starters had hits in game one and eight of them had at least one hit in game two.
The win puts Pomeroy at 1-7 on the season.
The Pirates travel to Touchet for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
