PENDLETON - The Wa-Hi boy's golf team finished second out of 12 teams at the Pendleton Invitational tournament here Friday.
The best five individual scores for the Blue Devils counted and in golf, the lower the score - the better.
The Wa-Hi team totaled up 313 strokes, ten behind West Valley at 303.
Jake Hanson came in second in individuals overall, at an even 72-par, one stroke behind the first place finisher.
Drew Reinland was at three over par, a 75, for Wa-Hi; followed by Travis Morrison and Nick Atwood at 83 strokes.
The fifth best finisher for Wa-Hi was Dean Atkinson with a 85.
"The guys who finished good today are pretty much are best golfers," Wa-Hi coach James Smith said. "Jake Hanson had a great round, he has been real consistent and really solid for us."
It wasn't so good for the Pioneers.
Will Riley led the Mac-Hi boys golfers at the Pendleton Tournament Thursday at the Pendleton Country Club with a 97.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, they finished last at the 13-team tournament.
"The weather was beautiful, finally, and we played at a beautiful course," Mac-Hi coach Elizabeth Ellis said. "Unfortunately, our scores didn't reflect the beautiful scenery.
"I see this year as our growing year, as we have a lot of young talent still developing their skills in order to make a really strong team. In all honesty, as we're coming up to districts, we really need to grind the basics and start playing at least bogey golf," she said. "It was not all negative, though. Will Riley improved his score since the last tournament and Mike Miller made his debut on the team as a freshman yesterday. Hopefully next week, we can put a better-showing forward at the La Grande tournament."
Riley's 97 was combined with Matt Hart's 98, Tavis Sicocan's 111, Angel Palacios' 112 for Mac-Hi's team score of 418. Mike Miller shot a non-counting 117.
West Valley won the tournament with a team score of 303, followed by Wa-Hi at 313, Lewiston 316, Hanford 318, Kamiakin 320, Pendleton 320, La Grande 336, Kennewick 339, Hood River 361, Hermiston 368, Baker 372, The Dalles 392 and Mac-Hi 418.
