Waitsburg-Prescott posts two wins over LC softball team

RICHLAND - Hailey Gonen of Waitsburg-Prescott softball had a big day with five hits, two triples, two walks, five runs and two RBIs to lead her team past Liberty-Christian in two games, 14-8 and 13-2.

"Hailey did what she has been doing all year," W-P coach Angie Potts said. "She has an on-base percentage of about eight hundred."

The second game was shortened by a ten-run mercy rule.

Jennifer Nichols pitched well in that game, allowing only two runs on three hits and yielding just one walk.

"Both of our pitchers, Nichols and Kaz Grende, allowed just one walk in each game," Potts said. "This was especially good for Kaz, who has been averaging five or six walks a game. Grende was pitching well and we shot ourselves in the foot with some errors and runs in the fourth. Other than that, she did well, too."

Potts said that the team "has made a commitment early this week in practice to change the way we were doing things. We were far more positive and talkative this game. Our actions started backing up our goals."

W-P is 4-2 in 2B conference play.
