WENATCHEE - Walla Walla University dropped two softball games to Wenatchee Valley Community College here Saturday.
"Wenatchee can flat-out hit," Walla Walla softball coach Mike Jimenez said. "You could tell that from the very first at-bat, and they were really fast and aggressive on the base paths. They took advantage of all the baserunners that they had."
WVCC won the first game 9-1, in the fifth inning of a mercy-rule shortened game.
WVCC closed out the second game early, 10-1 in five innings.
ReAnne Jolliffe and Chelsea DeBroeck of WVCC had five hits apiece in the doubleheader.
WWVC's catcher Chelsea Ellis had a solo home run in game one.
Veronica Rojas and Chelsea Aka had two hits on the day for Walla Walla.
"We had our chances early in both games," Jimenez said. "In the first inning of both games, we had two runners on - once with one out and once with no outs. Neither time did we score. It wouldn't have changed everything about the game but we could have built some momentum."
Walla Walla University plays again today at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. against the Eastern Washington Club team.
"Eastern Washington has always had a competitive team," Jimenez said. "If we come out early and and swing the bats early, I think we have a good chance of winning."
