Blue Devil girls win, lose by identical 5-2 scores

Wa-Hi topples Eastmont but loses to Wenatchee in Big Nine tennis road matches.

WENATCHEE - Wa-Hi's girls took a 5-2 Big Nine tennis match from Eastmont on the Wildcats' courts Saturday morning, but then suffered a 5-2 defeat at Wenatchee that afternoon.

The Blue Devils won three of four singles matches against the Wildcats, as well as the first two doubles matches.

"We got some really good performances from our singles players in the Eastmont match," Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. "Taking three out of four singles points left us with only one to point to get from our doubles teams. Shelby Osborn and Chantel Desjarlais, and Linnea Lake and Allison Mehn, brought home two well-deserved points in their respective No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots to help us win the match 5-2."

All four singles players lost against Wenatchee, with the Blue Devils' victories coming at the top two doubles teams slots.

"In the Wenatchee match, we put our No. 1 and No. 2 singles players (Presley Peck and Tianna Cummings) together to see how they would play as a doubles team, anticipating the district tournament," coach Peck said. "They did not disappoint, besting the Wenatchee No. 1 doubles team 6-2, 6-0. It was Presley's and Tianna's first doubles match together. They play well together and have a good dynamic about them. I am looking forward to some future matches where we can get them some more experience."

Peck also praised Osborn and Desjarlais at the second doubles spot.

"Shelby Osborn and Chantel Desjarlais made their record 2-0 on the day by knocking off Wenatchee's No. 2 doubles, 7-5, 6-4," he said. "It was great match. Shelby and Chantel played tough on some long deuce games and found a way to win. It was a huge confidence boost for both of them.

"The Eastmont/Wenatchee trip is always a tough one," Peck said. "The bus rolled out of the parking lot at 5 a.m. I was really happy with the way the girls performed on the courts despite the long trip. To come away 1-1 after a long day against two tough teams is a job well done."
