MILTON-FREEWATER - Ryley Croghan had five hits in six at-bats, including two doubles and a home run, and drove in three runs here Saturday as Mac-Hi salvaged a split with Ontario in a Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader at McRae-Ireland Field.
Croghan, Jake Knight and Lupito Salazar had two hits apiece during the Pioneers' 8-6 victory in game two.
The Tigers won the opener, 17-4, despite three hits from Croghan.
Mac-Hi and Ontario remained tied for third in the GOL after Saturday's twin bill. Both teams are 1-3 in league, two games behind Baker and La Grande.
Josh Mejia (four) and Victor Martinez (three) combined for seven of the Tigers' 11 hits in game one. Each player socked a home run in the contest.
"Croghan went 3-for-3 with two doubles," Mac-Hi coach Craig Angell said. "But we couldn't get enough runs across the plate and ran out of pitching."
Starting pitcher Randy Romero threw a complete game in the nightcap. He scattered nine hits and struck out an equal number of Ontario hitters.
"He threw very well," Angell said. "He did a great job of keeping their hitters off balance and moved the ball around."
Mac-Hi hosts La Grande on Friday at 2 p.m.
