Bob Patton, 66, died April 14, 2010, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.
Bob was born Nov. 9, 1943, in Rossville, Kan., to Chester and Lola Patton. His family moved to Walla Walla in 1948. Bob attended Walla Walla High School. Entered the Air Force and served in Vietnam. Bob attended Walla Walla Community College and studied Theology.
Bob enjoyed the cowboy lifestyle and spent many hours in the saddle. He competed in bull riding events as a member of the pro rodeo circuit in the 1960's. Bob loved to spend time in the mountains, hunted on horseback in the Pan Jab.
Bob retired from the Washington State Penitentiary in 2005. He was well liked and respected by all his co-workers and friends. Known for his quick wit and great storytelling abilities.
Bob married his childhood sweetheart, Carol Sumerlin in 2005, and together they enjoyed getting in touch with the Native American way and going to Pow Wows.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Chester Patton.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; mother, Lola Patton; sister, Charlotte; brother, Joseph Patton; sons, Robert Patton and Ronald Patton; daughters, Tammie Mings and Mandy Patton; step-children, Alex Lee III, Lonnie Gleim, Dawn Gerling, Tina Randolph; brother-in-laws, Raymond Sumerlin, John Sumerlin, Tom Sumerlin, Arnold Bockus; grandchildren, Shea Patton, Zach Patton, Josh Patton, Lane Sebastian, Bailey Ingals, Charisma Sair, Cameren Mings, Alex Lee IV, Dezeray Lambert, Makaya Mings, Miley Mings.
There will be a public viewing today at 3 p.m. at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the New Beginning Church in Walla Walla. Potluck to follow at Lyons Park Field House in College Place. Memorial contributions may be made through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
