DAYTON - DeSales golfer Ryan Baumgart hit 1-over-par at Touchet Valley to medal in a 2B golf match here Tuesday. Dayton's Caylyn Tate was medalist for the girls.

Baumgart's 73 on the par 72 course, 10 stokes ahead of his nearest competition, wasn't enough for DeSales to win, as they finished second to Tekoa-Oakesedale-Rosalia's team 462. DeSales' score was 487.

St. John-Endicott finished third at 532 and Dayton was incomplete.

"Ryan played pretty well," DeSales coach Lon Olson said. "He had five birdies in there, but obviously a few bogies too, and he hit an out of bounds.

"He struck the ball as well as he has in a while," Olson continued. "He's pretty happy with his score."

It was a good day to be on the course, Olson said.

"It was beautiful day and the conditions were great," he said. "We finished before it started clouding up, so it was perfect timing for us."

DeSales' team scores were Bryce Scott, shooting 89; Kyle Konen and Ben Konen, with 106 each; and Justin Meyer, 113. Not counting for the Irish were Mat Zimmerman's 121 and Chris Xie's 115.

Dayton team scores were Garrett Turner at 106 and Grant Heinrich at 119. Andrew Groom was disqualified and Andre Fayette didn't finish.

"It was a beautiful day for golf," said Dayton coach Mike McGhan. "In Dayton, we like to invite as many kids as possible, so quite a few JV kids had the opportunity to play."

Dayton's girls won the tournament at 313. DeSales was second with 353 and Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia third at 405. St. John-Endicott was incomplete.

Dayton's Caylyn Tate was the medalist, shooting 101.

DeSales' girls scores were Ashtom Montgomery at 105, Kelly Martin with 109 and Bethany Konen with 139.

Dayton's girls scores were Molly Payne at 102; Kalee Lytle, 110; Abby Chapman, 116; Cheyenne Bell, 131; Kyla Ihle, 141; Carly Grimshaw, 137; and Chelsea Martin, 129.

"I was very pleased with the way Dayton's girls played," McGhan said. "Michal and Erin Schuster from St. John-Endicott are extremely tough competitors, and to have Caylyn and Molly beat them at this point in the season is encouraging."

Michal Schuster shot a 102, tying Payne.

Three girls played scoring rounds per team. Several DeSales golfers are ill, and Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia just brought three.

DeSales plays in Ritzville at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Dayton plays Tuesday at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick.
