WALLA WALLA - DeSales dropped two softball games to Irrigon here Tuesday.

The Knights, last year's Class 1A-2A Oregon state champions, had decisive 13-0 and 11-1 wins over the Irish.

"Irrigon is a good team and it's good to play quality teams like this," DeSales coach Russ Vera said.

Irrigon pitcher Noelle Wright threw 10 strikeouts against the Irish in the first game, Vera said.

"She's awesome," he said. "She really kept our hitters off-balance."

Irish pitcher Ashlyn Lyons had a strong second game, throwing nine strikouts, he said.

The lone Irish point on the day came after Lexi Zander hit a double and stole to third. Janelle Hartford sacrificed her home.

A scheduling mix-up had DeSales traveling to Irrigon, while the Irrigon team waited for them in Walla Walla, Vera said.

The nearly three-hour round trip left the Irish girls sluggish, he said.

"We didn't look ready to play," he said. "It was not our best outing, and Irrigon has a very good team."

The Irish are 8-3 overall and remain undefeated at 8-0 in league play. They host Tri-Cities Prep at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
