WALLA WALLA - The undefeated Hanford Falcons checked one more victory off with a win over the Wa-Hi boys here Tuesday.
"After competing against the Falcons, it's no surprise why they are 9-0 in league standings," said Wa-Hi tennis coach Ted Cummings. "They are very talented through the top four singles positions, as well as the No. 1 doubles."
Two Blue Devils doubles teams won in the 5-2 loss.
Danny Wilson and John Meliah defeated Ian Reddick and Cameron Sullivan 6-4, 3-6 and 6-1. Madison Filan and Ruben Kuznetsov defeated Ian Alderson and Muthi Kukkadaepu 6-0 and 6-2.
"Our No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams continue to improve as they showed some talented form and style in our only two victories of the afternoon," Cummings said. Three of the four moved up from JV, and Kuznetsov is new to the sport, he said.
At No. 1 singles, Hanford's Luke Thompson defeated Cameron Davis 6-0, 6-2.
"Thompson is perhaps the no. 2 player in the entire 15-team league," Cummings said. Only Wenatchee's Hudson Barnhardt ranks higher, he said.
"Cameron Davis developed some great points against him, especially in the second set," Cummings said of the match.
The No. 2 singles was the closest of the singles matches, Cummings said.
Will Jhao defeated Wa-Hi's Jack Crouter 6-3, 6-2.
"Jack Crouter frustrated his opponent with his consistent style of play," he said.
The Blue Devils are 4-4 in league. Wa-Hi travels to Southridge for a 4 p.m. match Tuesday.
