Touchet sweeps Pomeroy in softball doubleheader

TOUCHET - Touchet took advantage of 17 bases on balls by Pomeroy pitchers to sweep a Southeast District 9 twin bill with the Pirates, 21-1 and 10-0, Wednesday.

"They had a hard time locating the strike zone," Indians coach Gary Dorman said of the Pomeroy pitchers. "When they did (locate the zone), we were able to put the bat on the ball consistently."

Nicole Brown went the distance in the circle for the Indians in the first game, with Stephanie Samuels stepping up in the nightcap. Both pitchers helped their cause with two hits in their respective game, with Brown picking up another in the nightcap.

Taylor Jasperson had five hits on the day for Touchet, with Cheyenne Kessler putting up four.

Touchet ended both games on the mercy rule, but Dorman said Pomeroy is improving.

"Pomeroy is greatly improved," he said. "They made some really nice plays in the field, and they cut down on their strikeouts and put the bat on the ball well. We played good defense behind our pitchers. But they (the Pirates) are getting a lot better, a lot faster."

Touchet's record is 14-1. The Indians travel to Washtucna for an 11 a.m. Southeast 1B-counting twin bill Saturday against Lacrosse-Washtucna.
