MILTON-FREEWATER - Waitsburg-Prescott chalked up 16 individual event victories here Wednesday during Walla Walla Valley Academy's annual track and field invitational at Shockman Field.

W-P's Ronnie Hulce turned in the day's best performance with victories in three events (100 hurdles, 18.41, 300 hurdles, 51.23, and high jump, 4 feet, 8 inches).

Waitsburg-Prescott also got strong first-place showings from Seth Deal (1600, 4:56.70, and 3200, 10:47.71), Kristin Potter (400, 1:04.06, and 800, 2:49.37), Isabela Benito (1600, 6:24.87, and 3200, 14:05.43), Genesis Pearson (shot put, 28-8.5, and discus, 93-1), James Lehr (discus, 167-9),

Ben Kiefel (shot put, 47-2.5), Eshom Estes (javelin, 159-2), Otis Montgomery (pole vault, 11-0), and Wyatt Withers (long jump, 19-11.5).

Lehr's toss in the discus was a foot over the all-time Class B state record, according to coach Ron Huntington.

"We had some really big breakthroughs," said Huntington, currently in his 43rd year of coaching track and field. "We made some big advances in the field events. It was not a good weather day, but it was a good day in a lot of different areas."

Top-finishing Pioneers were Kendall Brown (100 meters, 11.71), Kaleb Taylor (800, 2:17.33), Tony Ng (110 hurdles, 18.25), Rick Sandoval and Sierra Burchell (both in the triple jump, 38-10 and 29-7, respectively).

"We didn't have a lot of expectations coming in, but it was nice to have a middle-of-the-week meet to take the edge off," Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said. "Our young people stepped up.

"We're getting solid," Milleson continued. "We're on track to peak at district. I'm happy with where we're at."

Pomeroy was led by a double win from Justin Bingman (200, 23.89, and 400, 53.63). Justin Ruark won the high jump (5-4) and Brielle Hocking finished first in the pole vault (8-9).

DeSales had two athletes prevail - Nick Wales in the 300 hurdles (42.33) and Roxana Acock in the javelin (95-7).

"We're a bit tired," said Irish coach Mike Michels, whose team was competing in its fifth meet in 15 days. "It's caught up with us a little bit. It's to be expected.

"The kids always compete hard and give you their best every day," Michels said. "Everybody's got good kids. This is a great facility and a close trip for us."

The Knights' Casey Roosma turned in WWVA's top effort by doubling in the 100 (13.37) and 200 (28.44).

"We're pleased," said WWVA coach Dan Solis, who was without the senior members of his team on Wednesday due to a class trip. "It gave us a chance to (give) freshmen and sophomores a chance to step up. We're happy with what (we saw). We've got kids practicing regularly and the results are showing up in the meets."

Dayton had one athlete claim first. Courtney Fuller won the long jump (13-5.75).

Mac-Hi won four of the six relays staged. Lance Warne, Alberto Garcia, Miguel Medina and David Munoz won the boys 800 relay in 1:50.64, while Javi Carvajal, John Lonai, Christian Zaragosa and Dylan Wagoner posted a 3:48.14 to win the boys 1600 relay.

Erica Torres, Mica Epifanio, Sierra Burchell and Kathleen Hopkins teamed up to win the girls 400 relay with a 55.31 mark for the Pioneers. Emily Childers joined Hopkins, Epifanio and Torres to win the girls 1600 relay in 4:23.22.
