ATHENA - Weston-McEwen's tennis players took their first team win of the season against Ione here Thursday.

The boys and girls both won 3-2.

In No. 1 singles, TigerScot Colby McKague lost 8-1 to Ione's Germano Argueno.

"He lost to one of the top two kids in our district," W-M coach Danny Sanchez said.

McKague and Daniel Winn lost to R.J. Ramos and Johan Morlin, 8-0. The Ione doubles team is strong, Sanchez said.

"They're one of the top four teams in the district," he said. "Those were good losses."

The girls had two singles wins and one doubles loss to Ione. Laura Allesle Samantha Moorehouse had the singles wins, and Melissa Huskey and Shyanne Albee won in doubles.

"The girls are improving every day," Sanchez said.
