WALLA WALLA - Road closures will continue on 13th Avenue for the next two months, but there will be plenty of shifting detours as paving work shifts on various sections of the project.

"It is kind of a puzzle; it really is," said Neal Chavre, a city engineer. "Complicated for sure and it is difficult ... This first stage of the project was a little bit easier because we didn't have as many businesses as we do on the north end of 13th."

Starting early this week, a major changing of the road blocks will occur when 13th Avenue between Cherry Street and Dell Avenue is reopened on Tuesday.

At the same time, 13th Avenue between Reese and Dell avenues will be closed for about four to six weeks while grading, excavating and other prep work is performed prior to repaving.

The intersection of 13th and Dell avenues "will be kept open as much as possible" over the next several weeks, but traffic will be restricted at times while utility, storm drain and other road work is performed, Chavre said.

Then sometime after Spring Release weekend, 13th Avenue between Abadie and Rose streets will be closed for one day for repaving.

The entire 13th Avenue project, which started in February, is expected to be complete in early July.
