Helix tennis players busy with Friday and Saturday matches

HELIX - Tyler Bushman and Dakota Brown took sixth place with a 3-1 record in a league tournament in Hermiston Saturday.

The boys played in Hermiston and the girls in Stanfield.

Deidra Nitz went 1-1 and Jackie Hart went 0-2 in their matches Saturday.

Benn Fordyce was 2-1 in singles in the tournament. Grant McMurray and Greg Papineau finished 2-2 in doubles.

"We're getting better slowly but surely," Helix tennis coach Wayne Miller said. "We've got to keep working and see what happens. It is good enough for right now."

The Helix boys went 4-2 in singles and doubles tennis combined over Stanfield here Friday.

Helix's Tylor Bushman won 8-0 over Tyler Botts, Benn Fordyce beat Stanfield's Jason Whelan 8-4, and Greg Papineau beat David Julio, 8-4.

In doubles, Stanfield's D. Nichols and Tyler Botts beat Helix's Grant McMurray and Greg Papineau, 8-6. Michael Gerke beat Brown, 8-3.

In boys' doubles, Bushman and Brown beat Stanfield's Gerke and Nichols.

The girls lost 0-2 to Stanfield.

Stanfield's Mariela Carillo defeated Deidra Nitz 8-3, and Yazella Chavez won over Helix's Jackie Hart, 8-0.
