LA GRANDE - The junior varsity and varsity Mac-Hi boys golf team, plus one girl, Allison Varady, competed at La Grande Friday afternoon. The Pioneers finished last of four schools.

The team scores were La Grande 332, Ontario 388, Baker 386 and Mac-Hi 431.

Nathan Ladendorff was the medalist, shooting 75.

Pioneers' scores were Matt Hair at 99, Tavis Sicocan 97, Brandon Ferroni 111, Brayden Moller 124 and Varady's 116. Tyler Williams was disqualified.

"I have to give Allison Varady credit," Mac-Hi coach Elizabeth Ellis said. "Not only did she play in an all-boys tournament, she played from the black tees, which are consistently 50 yards behind the ladies' tees. She played decent. As with the boys team, she needs to gain some confidence in her skills."

This year has been particularly challenging for us to score well as a team, because we have so many young players who are new to competitive golf," she continued. "Hopefully, as we're nearing the district tournament, our boys will gain some confidence in their games, and also bring their scores down."
