YAKIMA - Walla Walla rallied from four-run deficits in two games against West Valley here Friday in Cascade Division baseball play, but only garnered a win in game two.
The Blue Devils fell 5-4 in game one, then battered the Rams 11-4 in the nightcap.
Matt Watson mashed the ball in each of his eight at bats for Wa-Hi, going 7-7 at the plate while retiring only once on a deep sacrifice fly.
Rams batters managed six hits in game one against Wa-Hi's Ryan James, who pitched a complete game in the loss.
On the flip side, Wa-Hi tagged the ball 11 times for just four runs.
Watson took to the mound to start game two, but a shaky four-run second inning chased him from the mound by inning three. Jake Campeau finished the final five innings in shutout fashion, while the Blue Devil offense revved up.
Wa-Hi exploded for six runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and three more in the seventh via a three-run Aaron Flippo longball. It was Flippo's second home run of the season.
Walla Walla coach Keith Gradwohl had high praise for his Friday star trio.
"Watson is really swinging it right now," Gradwohl said. "He's 25-46 on the season. He raised his batting average to .543. That's as good of an average as we've had at Wa-Hi in a long time.
"Campeau was in command tonight. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter, and Flippo's homer kind of put the game away in the seventh," he contiued.
The split shifts the Blue Devils record to 7-7 overall, 4-4 in Cascade Division.
Wa-Hi takes to the diamond again Tuesday in a doubleheader at home against Eisenhower.
