WALLA WALLA - The Wa-Hi girls golf team placed ninth of 15 teams at a Big Nine pod match here Tuesday.
The girls shot a combined 415 at Veteran's Memorial Course, led by Kylar Boggs' 93 on the par 72 course.
"As a coach, I couldn't be happier with the progress we're making," said Wa-Hi coach Mike Patterson. "In every outing we have, we improve."
Patterson said his goal was a team score of 417, which they beat by two strokes.
"We've been knocking 10 or 15 strokes off our team score at every match we go to," he said. "I thought the girls did a fantastic job."
Richland led the 15 teams, shooting 321 and claiming the top two spots. Kristin Strankman was medalist, shooting 75.
Conditions were good for a round, he said.
"It was absolutely beautiful," he said. "The greens were recently sanded, so they were running rather slow. The girls were having a difficult time adapting to the different speed because of the greens being so slow, but they were able to get the job done."
Boggs' 93 put her at 21st of about 80 golfers. Allexa Kaylor shot 107 for a tie at 39th, Hodgen was tied for 43rd with 105 and Cassie Patterson was tied for 55th, shooting 115.
Boggs is a senior, Kaylor is a junior, Hodgen is a sophomore and Cassie Patterson is a freshman.
"We've got a good disbursement of girls in each grade level, and they're a great bunch of kids to be around," Mike Patterson said. "They've got a great work ethic."
Overall, Walla Walla is in 10th place of 15 Big Nine schools.
The girls play next May 10 at Eastmont in Wenatchee.
