Eastern Oregon University takes two softball games from Walla Walla University Wolves

LA GRANDE - Walla Walla University's softball team lost two games to Eastern Oregon University here Wednesday.

The Wolves lost the first game 10-1 in five innings. They lost the seven-inning second game, 4-0.

Walla Walla combined for seven errors in the two games.

"We committed four errors in the first two innings (of the first game) and they obviously took advantage of that," said WWU coach Mike Jimenez.

The Mountaineers scored all 10 of their runs in those two innings.

"Outside of those errors, we played solid softball," Jimenez said.

But the first-inning pattern repeated in the second game, when EOU's Krista Kountz nailed her second home run of the day.

"We made two errors in the first inning, one of which allowed a three-run homer," Jimenez said. "They definitely capitalized on our errors, but I thought we played pretty solid for most of those games."

Walla Walla's Andrea Pedro and Chelsea Aka pitched well, mostly keeping the Mountaineer's hitters off-balance, he said.

But the errors added up, with both games lost on early runs, he said.

Walla Walla is hosting a year's end tournament this weekend. They play at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and at noon Sunday. It hosts Eastern Washington University, University of Oregon, University of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University.
