WALLA WALLA - Ali Zander and Amanda Warnick picked up two hits each and Ashlyn Lyons pitched four innings of one-hit ball Thursday afternoon as DeSales knocked off Tri-Cities Prep 11-1 in non-league prep softball play on the Irish campus.
The game, a five-inning affair because the Irish scored eight runs in the fourth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule, had originally been scheduled for Tuesday but was rained out.
And the win bumped DeSales' season record to 9-3 going into today's non-league doubleheader at Touchet beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Lyons registered six strikeouts and walked just one in her four innings of work.
Warnick came on to pitch the fifth inning and yielded two of the Jaguars' three hits.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, DeSales scored single runs in each of the first three innings before breaking the game open in the fourth.
The Irish bunched six of their nine hits in that inning to go with three Tri-Cities Prep errors.
Bobbi Prior delivered a key two-run single in the Irish fourth and Zander's second hit of the game also produced a run in that frame. Zander scored twice in the game as did Warnick.
All nine of DeSales' hits were singles.
"We are not there yet," DeSales coach Russ Vera said. "Tri-Cities Prep's pitcher wasn't throwing real hard, and we had a hard time adjusting. We didn't hit the ball the way we should have, and we also made three errors in the field.
"We need get a little better before we play Dayton," Vera added, referring to the Irish's next Southeast 2B District doubleheader scheduled for Monday on the Bulldogs' diamond.
DeSales leads the district with an 8-0 record while Dayton is in third place at 4-2.
