Allen Harry Dawes, 57, peacefully lost his battle with Mesothelioma cancer on July 31, 2010, while at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
There will be a memorial service for Allen on Friday, August 6th at 3 p.m. at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St. Walla Walla. Private inurnment will at Blue Mountain Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity and to the Walla Walla Hospice through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
Allen was born Dec. 12, 1952, in Yakima, to Anna Helena (Allen) and Harry Wellington Dawes. Allen was a lifelong resident of Walla Walla - College Place. Allen attended local schools and graduated form Wa-Hi in 1970, Allen attended WWCC he worked many years for Walla Walla Grain Growers. He also was employed by Dick Spady Plumbing, Ken Emick Framing and has been employed with the City of Walla Walla for 30 years in the Water Department.
In 1976 Allen met the love of his life on a blind date arranged by his friends. Dawn Mack and Allen married June 18, 1978. They had 32 wonderful years together as best friends. They liked to travel and have been on many great trips. Allen's dream was, after he retired was to go the help build homes for Habitat for Humanity. Allen's hope in life was to help someone else, in any little way he could. Allen loved people. One of his passions was cars, he loved building them, fixing them, and of course always making them go faster.
Allen is survived by his wife, Dawn Dawes at the home, his son Eric Dawes of College Place; and one sister Donna (Gary) Finkbiner of Jacksonville, Oregon; his in-laws Lydia (Rosin) Donald Mack. Brother and sister in-law Patti (Mack) Daniel Bray; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Anna (Allen) and Harry W. Dawes.
