Texas G. "Tex" Mills, 53469 Locust Road, Milton-Freewater, passed away Aug. 2, 2010, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, at the age of 76 years.
A potluck gathering for family and friends will be Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at the family home on Locust Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tex Mills Memorial Fund through the
Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
He was born in Baker City, Ore., on July 13, 1934, to Robert R. and Sadie C. Mattix Mills. His family moved from Baker City to Milton-Freewater when he was 7 years old. He joined the National Guard and the Air Force in the early 1950s. He married Nancy June Kelly on June 7, 1954. He worked as a mechanic at Valley Motors for years. He served as a Reserve Police Officer for the M-F Police Department for over 15 years. He loved working on motors and restoring old cars, but his main passion was building model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; six daughters, Penny, Carol, Kelly, Sharleen, June and Missy; three sons; Tim, Mike and Matt; 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
