Carol J. Sherman of Milton-Freewater passed away July 31, 2010, at Walla Walla General Hospital at the age of 65 years. Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Milton-Freewater with Pastor Steve Lyons officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center Special Needs through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Carol was born April 11, 1945, in Walla Walla, the daughter of Raymond and Lois Oliver Witt. She grew up in Milton-Freewater, attending Ferndale and Pleasant View grade schools and then McLoughlin
Union High School, graduating in 1963. She married Al Hutchins in 1963, and they had three children. They later moved to California, where they began raising their family. The family then moved to Portland for a short time and other areas before returning to Milton-Freewater in 1972. The couple were later divorced.
On Aug. 24, 1977, she married Dorsey Sherman in Walla Walla. Carol worked for 28 years as a bookkeeper and dispatcher for Luisi Truck Lines in Milton-Freewater. Carol was a loving and compassionate
person and loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. After her retirement, she spent many hours doing her favorite thing, which was doing puzzles. Her other hobbies included reading, quilting, cooking, gardening, bird watching and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey, on July 11, 1985.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Karin Hutchins of Milton-Freewater, and Ray and Charity Hutchins of Walla Walla; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca D. and Terry Propeck, of
Medical Lake, Wash.; four sisters, Linda Witt of Milton-Freewater, Anna Meigs of Richland, Bonnie Cox of Caldwell, Idaho and Wanda Witt of Salem, Ore.; a brother, Don Witt of Yakima; seven grandchildren,
Raven, Brandon, Justin, Marrissa, Paige, Haley and Trenton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sherman was preceded in death by her parents.
