Earl and Barbara Elkington


Earl and Barbara Elkington of Milton-Freewater will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday.

The couple met at Umapine High School in 1948. They married Aug. 14, 1950, in Walla Walla. Barbara's maiden name is McCune.

Earl worked from 1949 to 1964 for Young's Diary in Walla Walla. He then operated a registered Angus ranch in Ellensburg from 1964 to 1997 when he retired. He is past chairman of the Washington Angus Association and a member of the Washington Cattlemen Association. He is a member and trustee of Ingle Chapel Congregational Church. He served two terms as chairman of the Milton-Freewater Senior Center and is an avid sports fan.

Barbara is a homemaker and past member of the county, state and national Cattlewomen's associations. She is a member of Ingle Chapel Congregational Church and Auxiliary.

They have a daughter, Sandy Sundquist of Longview, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Seth Elkington of Stayon, Ore., Jennifer Elkington, of Portland, and Kellee Schneider, of Longview. Their son, Michael Elkington, died June 2, 2009.
