Whet your appetites for The Center at the Park's seventh annual outdoor barbecue, which will feature grilled Bristol Bay red Alaskan salmon on Aug. 20.
The complete dinner with salad bar, punch and dessert and entertainment will be from 5-7:30 p.m. in the air-conditioned center, at 720 Sprague Ave.
The cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the door and $8 for those under 12 years old. Proceeds benefit the Senior Round Table Meals on Wheels nutrition program.
Another dining opportunity will come with the monthly strawberry waffle supper, served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Center. Sponsored in August by Park Plaza, this meal offers a Belgian waffle loaded with strawberries and whipped cream and a side of sausage. The Olde Tyme Musicians will perform following the meal.
Fundraisers are what keep the Center in the black, including the upcoming Blackjack Tournament at 6 p.m. Sept. 17. Participants stand to win $50 up to $750, the center's website seniors.bmi.net notes. The entry fee is $25 with only 105 entries available.
A place to meet and socialize, the Center provides a variety of activities, including Dance to Fitness and AARP driver's safety classes; Olde Thyme Musicians performances; bridge; foot care and legal counseling.
The senior center is also offering a Wallowa Lake picnic and Mount Howard Tramway tour on Aug. 25. The $74-per-person fee includes transportation, lunch and a gondola ride. All ages are encouraged. It departs at 9 a.m. and returns by 6 p.m.
Adult day care is offered from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the Center. Caregivers who can use a break and others with friends or loved ones who can benefit from this program are urged to contact Audrey Renaud at 527-0771 for more details.
In addition to more clients, the Adult Day Center will benefit from gifts of nutritional snacks, rhythm instruments, red watercolor markers, non-citrus juices and offers of financial support.
