Regina Furlong

Regina Furlong
April 7, 1941 - Aug. 7, 2010

Regina Furlong, mom, grandma, Grandma Gina, Mums, and friend.
These were the titles this woman could boast. She was dearly loved by family as well as her friends and her children's friends. Many of whom considered her their "second mom" while growing up.

Regina was born April 7, 1941, in Olympia and was the only child of Nellie Alice Briggs McKenney and Dwight L. McKenney. Her family lived in many places around the Northwest as she grew up, but her very favorite had to be the Oregon Coast. She graduated from Marshfield High School class of 1959 in Coos Bay, Ore. She then attended Walla Walla College for a year before transferring to and consequently
graduating from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Portland in 1963 with her R.N. Regina met and married Dr. Thad Furlong while working in Salem at the state hospital. They divorced three years
later, but not without having two girls, Karen and Kristi. She then moved to College Place to be near family and raise her two girls. Regina worked at many hospitals over her career, but probably enjoyed St. Anthony's in Pendleton the best; she worked there in the drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit for close to 20 years.

After retiring, Regina continued to devote her life to her daughters and their children. She was at each of the grandkid's births and watched them on a regular basis when they were young. She loved the Lord and liked to minister behind the scenes. Besides spending time with family and friends, Regina enjoyed camping,
vacationing at the Oregon Coast, scrapbooking, and attending demonstrations and games that her grandchildren were in. Regina was her grandkids' No. 1 fan at any and all sporting events and they always knew she was there by the way she would cheer. She was always in color-coordinating clothes (according to their team color) and loved to make noise. Regina was truly one of the best grandma's anyone could ever have wanted.

Regina is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Eric Carpenter and Kristi and Kirk Alden; and five grandchildren, Ryan Alden, Seth Alden, Nelson Carpenter, Abigail Carpenter and Annie Carpenter, all of Walla Walla.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 66 S. Palouse St. There will be a dinner following for those who can stay and visit. Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or to
Positive Life Radio through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
