Walla Walla Native Plant Society slates hikes over next week


WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla Native Plant Society is guiding YMCA Explorers on a hike to see wildflowers near Spout Springs Thursday.

On Saturday, the group will take a field trip to the Umatilla Rim Trail No. 3080, followed by wine tasting at Bunchgrass Winery at about 3 p.m.

Meet at Whitman College's Harper Joy parking area at 8:30 a.m., and bring appropriate clothing, water and a lunch.

This section of the Rim Trail between Shamrock Springs and Johnson's Creek gradually descends from the Shamrock Springs area through huckleberries, thimbleberries and wild currants, winding along the end of Nine-mile Ridge, and turning south into forest.

And on Tuesday, there will be a day hike from Target Meadows to the South Fork and Harris Park.

This trip will involve car-pooling. C

This 10-mile hike begins near Target Meadows at the Burnt Cabin Trailhead.
